For the past six years the School of Engineering at RPI and the Center for Disability Services have had a collaborative agreement providing biomedical engineering students with opportunities to make meaningful impacts on the lives of people with diverse and complex needs.
We are always proud of how many of our patients are actively involved in the giving of their time and efforts to benefit both our local communities and abroad. We love to share these great and inspiring stories.
Our patient, Lara Bryfonski, is a teacher with, Bilingual Education for Central America. This year, through their partnership with three community-based Honduran organizations, over 450 children in Pre-K to 9th grade were educated at three partner schools by a team of 23 US volunteers and 9 Hondurans.
This summer Lara asked if we would donate toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss so that she could distribute it to the students while on her mission. Obviously, we were only to happy to help. The children in the grade school at San Jeronimo Bilingual School, Cofradia, Honduras do not have any access to dental care.
People going above and beyond to help others is worth sharing and celebrating. If you would like to learn more about this organization, you can visit http://
